Creating a global identity for creative communities

From makerspaces to music studios, creative collectives to co-working spaces – creative hubs are spaces, communities and networks for artists, designers, activists and culture producers. Recognising the vital role that hubs play in developing creative economies, Nesta, British Council and Hivos have joined forces to create a global learning programme for hub leaders in the fields of creative, social and digital innovation.

Our task was to create a name and identity for this programme which would resonate and adapt with hub leaders around the world.
Inspired by the programme’s collective learning ethos, our concept was based around the idea of ‘greater than the sum of its parts’. We created a universal, icon based ‘kit of parts’ identity designed with flexibility in mind. The identity system was in-built with the potential to adapt to different geographies and cultures at a national and local level.
Following a collaborative workshop based naming process and audience testing in South Africa, the name Creative Hubs Academy was chosen alongside a vibrant, energetic identity which was designed to capture the spirit of collective creative energy and provide an endless number of creative possibilities for the identity in the future.

Edit_ were dedicated to delivering not only the brand assets but an inclusive and collaborative approach, involving teams from sponsor organisations in the UK and overseas. A great experience and highly recommended.
